Tubing

It was a beautiful summer evening and the water was clear as glass.  My two older brothers, a friend and I were out on the water tubing.  We were tubing for a while and then it was my turn. My brother Tyler stayed on the other tube.  We use two separate tubes and one person per tube.  It makes it a lot funnier and more room to do different things.
This summer will be the third summer with the new boat.  Well, I still call it new because our last one was really old and smaller.  The new boat has a 265-horse engine and is 20 feet long.  The old one only had a 135-horse engine and was a lot shorter.  We have a lot of fun with the new boat and maybe we have too much fun.  A lot of people have gotten hurt including me.
So on that nice summer day it was Tyler and I on the tubes.  We had been going for a while.  If you understand tubing with the Daugherty’s at all.  You might want to say a prayer before you get on the tube. It is crazy out there.  You never know what the driver is going to do and you have to be ready at all times.
So to get to my story. We had been riding tubes for a while when my brother made a perfect wave.  Jordon made Tyler and I go over the wave perfectly.  Tyler went up and flip over and starting to come down. When I hit the wave I slid underneath in the air.  He came down with his back facing down and we landed back-to-back, head-to-head.
We fell off the tubes right away and we both reached for our heads.  When we were in the water my brother on saying that his head hurt and I swam over to him and tried to calm him down. I kept telling him “I was right there” and “I got you.”  My brother got most of the force to his head.  I had some pain but not as bad as Tyler.  When the boat got back to us I got into it right away and helped pull my brother into the boat.  He said his head hurt very badly` and he couldn’t remember what happened after he landed on me.
We think we got slight concussions but we never went into the doctor to make sure. This didn’t stop us from tubing.  We didn’t go tubing the day after that because we still had slight headaches.  We went the next weekend though.
I am still a little scared but it doesn’t stop me from going tubing again.

Rock Picking
As the years have progressed my dad has gotten more gators and people to pick the rocks.  It kind of just started out with my brothers and I on the loader.  Finally, we got old enough to drive by ourselves and my dad sent us out with a tractor and wagon.  Gators came along shortly after and we hired a classmate or two to fill the empty seats.  Now we go out with three gators and we have Tyler Wieberdink and two other people come and help.
Although some people and most kids think that rock picking is the worst job in the world, I don’t think it’s the worst but it isn’t the best.  Bending over and picking up rocks all day gets boring but it has to be done.
However, to get rid of the boredom we think of things to do.  Like one time we found a cover to a pail and we played tag with it from gator to gator.  You had to throw it and hit the other gator for them to be it.  I don’t think we pick up a whole lot of rocks during that game but it was fun.  Another time we collected corncobs that still had corn on them and when we finally had enough we started a little war with them.  It was pretty intense one guy had his hat taken off by one of the corncobs thrown at him.   If there aren’t any corncobs in a field we will just use dirt clods. Those hurt a little bit more than the corncobs.
However, the past couple years we have been wrecking the transmissions in the gators by trying to go up steep hills.  We took the transmission out of one of them already and had to get it replaced.  We race with the gators too that sometimes turns out good and sometimes not.  Let’s just say Tyler and I are fortunate that we didn’t get hurt one time.  We started racing on the road against my brothers.  I had a great plan for hitting a short cut.  On the intersection we had to make a right turn, there was a grass area and we took the ditch.  When going back up on the road I couldn’t decide whether to take the approach or the ditch, so I took both.  We hit both the ditch and approach at about 20MPH.  Tyler flew out of his seat into the air about two feet and I almost fell out and got ran over.  Our buckets and lunch boxes went flying everywhere on the gravel road. It took us about five to ten minutes to find all the stuff back, including the shovel that got thrown to the other ditch on the other side of the road.  We met up with my brothers after we found all of my stuff back.
We make rock-picking fun even though it is tedious work.  We even hooked up radios so we don’t get so bored any more.

Compare/Contrast Essay

Many parents have to make a decision in some point of their kid’s life. To send their kids to a public or private school.  I think many parents would want their kids to go to a private school but they can’t afford it.  Since public school is government funded, parents can send them there with very little expenses. This essay will show you the benefits of students learning different subject from a Christian viewpoint and how it can benefit them later on in life.
The education that is taught in both schools is somewhat the same, but public may teach some classes in a different view. Private schools teach that everything is made and put in place by God. Private schools also have Bible classes that teach and study God’s Word.
Private schools let you have a better teacher-student relationship.  Surveys say the public schools don’t have a good teacher-student relationship. That is because some of the students don’t care about their grades.  Some of the students in public schools don’t respect their teachers. So why should the teachers help them? Christian schoolteachers want their students to learn and do their best. Private school teachers want to spend time with their students to make sure they are getting what is being taught.
The discipline in these two different schools is completely different.  Public school students know they can get away with stuff so they do it anyway.  The students swear at each other.  They get into fights almost every day and faculty barely does anything about it.  At a Christian school, like ours, the students know if they do something wrong they will be punished. Most private schools have strict rules about what you can and cannot do. Also in a Christian school, students respect each other and the teachers.  Students in public school don’t respect each other or the teachers.  I shouldn’t say all the students don’t respect them because some treat their teachers with more respect than some Christian school kids.
Private schools get their students ready for college.  The teachers push their kids to do the best the can.  Public teachers care about their students but they can’t do as much when the students don’t care about their grades or if they are going to college.  I looked online and found that private schools average 1.25 better on their ACT tests than public school students.   That’s not much but it kind of proves that some private school students take school more seriously than public school students.
If you want to have your kid to get a good quality education while building there relationship in God I would send them to a private school.

Persuasive Essay

The freshman class should take a field trip to tour Target Field.  It would be a great experience for all who came.  We would learn about the history and the player that have come through the Minnesota Twins and possibly meet some current members of the Twins and get some autographs.  We would get an insight on what all happened to build Target Field.
Going to Target field for a day would give us a break from school.  We have been working hard all year, doing homework and studying for tests.  It’s about time we are rewarded with a small break from school.  It would only be for a day or possibly two days if the Twins played a day game the next day that we could watch.
If you are a Twins freak like me, you should be agreeing with me on the field trip.  Target Field was just opened last March.  It’s a brand new field and would be awesome to go tour.  We would get to see the full insight of Target Field.  It would be a blast to get to see what the players get to use.  It would be the highlight of the school year, for me anyway.
The cost wouldn’t be to tremendous. It is only twelve dollars for students and eight for kids.  We could pay are for share of it and possibly a little extra to pay for the bussing. If someone really wanted to go and didn’t have the money for it we could all chip in or maybe do a fundraiser.
Taking a field trip to Target Field would be a fantastic learning and fun experience for everyone. Some of the teachers could get a break too.  They could get to see the remarkable stadium and maybe see some of the Twin’s former players.  The students need a break as well because we are exhausted with schoolwork.  Studies show that the human brain can only handle so much without needing a rest.  And we are on the verge of loosing it!

Nick Book Review

Felix Piloto was one of the kids that loved playing sports outside.  He LOVES baseball.  Baseball is the only thing he likes to do. Felix’s father wasn’t around so it was just Felix and his mom.  In Free Baseball, Felix was a little baby and he had lived in Cuba.  His father played professional baseball over in Cuba, but he wanted what was best for the family.  He took his family to a boat to be smuggled out of the country, but it was too small for all of them to fit.  Felix’s father stayed behind so that Felix could have a better life.  He was kicked out of Pro baseball for this, but his family’s life did improve.
Felix is the best guy on his team.  All Felix wanted to do was to go to an East Naples Egrets game.  Felix had won some tickets off the radio so he was finally able to go.  He really wanted to go with his mom but his mom was busy with work and school.  She was going to school so she could get a better job.
Felix begged enough so he got his mom to let him go.  His mom wouldn’t let him go by himself so she had a babysitter go with him to the game. When they got to the game Maryann wanted to sit by her friends so she didn’t let Felix go sit in the seat he had the ticket for.  Maryann’s friend bugged Felix the whole game so he didn’t really get to watch the game.  After the game Felix got to run the bases at the “Birds Nest.”   Felix had never been in a real dugout before so he wanted to check it out.  When he entered the visiting team’s dugout, a guy mistook him for a being a batboy.  Felix went along with it because he didn’t want to go back to Maryann quite yet.
Felix did the chores that were asked of him, and he decided he liked this job, so he hid on the Miracle’s bus.  When the bus stopped, Felix was relieved that he had made it alive.  Felix left a message for his mom telling her that he had gone home with a friend who he had seen at the game.  Felix spent the night in a bathroom in the team’s clubhouse at the field.  Felix’s got the official job, as batboy and his mother still believed that he was at a friend’s house.  Felix became great friends with Vic.  Vic was the general manager and owner of the Miracle Baseball Team.  Vic took care of Felix for the few days that he was there with the Miracle.
Felix would have to tell his mother where he was at some point, but he really didn’t want to.  When he finally did his mother was extremely mad, but Vic got her to calm down.  Vic gave Felix’s mom some tickets to watch the Miracle play.  After that game, Vic and Felix’s mom got to talk and it ended up that Vic offered her a job as a worker for the Miracle organization.
When Felix found out that his dad wasn’t playing baseball anymore and that he had gotten remarried.  Felix now realized that his dad will never come back to him.  After getting the job as batboy, Felix was able to mature and gain a better relationship with his mother.
I really liked like this book.  I usually don’t like to read, but when I started reading Free Baseball, I never wanted to put it down.  Soc Corbett did an amazing job with this fiction story.  It really made me feel like I was watching the games and being the batboy with Felix.  It gave me a good picture as to what the baseball fields looked liked.  Free Baseball really put me in the mood to really watch or play some baseball.  I would rather play than watch it though.  I really encourage other baseball freaks, like me, or anyone who just wants to read a good book, to read Free Baseball.

All-Star Jake

“No No No! This can’t be happening,” yelled coach as he ran onto the field to his all-star pitcher.  Coach had heard the elbow snap and he saw his pitcher go down in pain.  The six four, hundred and sixty pound right hander was their best pitcher.  He could throw the ball so hard that the batter wouldn’t even see the ball coming.  Jimmy laid on the luscious green infield grass.  There were five or six guys standing around him trying to get him to calm down.  He was in a lot of pain.
Coach had to make a decision about who to put in to take Jimmy’s place.  Coach could either put in Jake, who was pretty good at pitching but had some control issues, or he could put in Joe.  Joe had a little more experience at pitching but had some problems throwing the ball over the plate.  Coach decided to put Jake in.  Jake was excited because this was the first time he got to pitch in 4 games.  Jake threw his warm-up pitches, which were not too bad.  When the batter got into the batters box Jake got chills down his back.  There was only one guy on and he was at first base.
Jake threw the first pitch and missed the strike zone by a little bit.  Jake walked the batter with 4 straight balls.  Coach left Jake in for the rest of the game but the Orioles ended up losing the game five to two.  Jake allowed the 3 runs that let the Jay Hawks win the game.
Jake's dad offered him a ride home, but Jake liked to walk home.  They only lived a few blocks away from the baseball field so it wasn’t that far of a walk.  Jake also liked to look at all the beautiful gardens that the people had in their front yards. There were to many flowers to count planted in the gardens and that also gave Jake time to think about the game.
When Jake finally got home his dad had supper ready but he wasn’t hungry.  Jake was only five feet eight inches tall and only weighed  hundred and ten pounds.  He never really ate that much and since he had just gotten done playing a baseball game he wasn’t hungry at all.
It was Saturday now and Jake had practice once again. The team decided at the beginning of the year that they wanted to have practices on Saturday as well so they could improve even more. If Jake wanted to pitch again he would have to practice being able to throw the ball over the plate.
Coach had some words to say to the team about the game the night before and how Jimmy was doing with his elbow.  Then he told the team to go warm-up, but he kept Jake back to tell him some good news.  Coach told him that since Jimmy is out for the rest of the season he will have to be the starting pitcher.
So coach told him to work on his delivery and getting the ball to cross the plate.  Coach also said that Jimmy will be back next week to help out if Jake needed him to give him some pointers.  Jake practiced his delivery and got it down.  He would be starting the next game against the number one team in state. Jake was excited that he would actually get to start a game for once.  He came through and pitched a really fantastic game that included a shutout through five innings.  They accomplished their goal and beat the team that was number one just one short year ago.
Jake lead the Orioles to the Championship that year but lost a close game that was sent into extra innings.  They were the second best team in the state that year, and the team was very proud of their season.
